Post Conference Technical Tour
September 6, 2001, San Francisco, California

The Post Conference technical tour will begin at 8 am and visit some of the very interesting sites along the San Francisco waterfront. Descriptions of the sites are given below. These have been especially selected because they have been enjoyed by previous visitors to San Francisco. The tour will return from the Bay Model via a ferry ride across San Francisco Bay. Prof. Robert L. Wiegel, University of California, Berkeley, will narrate the tour with George Domurat, Corps of Engineers and Lesley Ewing, California Coastal Commission.

The National Park Service and the Golden Gate Nartional Parks Association are working to transform Crissy Field by expanding 1.5 miles of beach shoreline along the waterfront in the City of San Francisco, establish native sand dunes, restore a tidal marsh for enjoyment and public education, replicate the Historic WWI Crissy Airfield and create 100 acres of open space for public use. A tidal marsh once covered much of the area of present-day Crissy Field. Twenty acres of this marsh, which was filled during many years of military use, is being restored.
